2014 State Summer Games
All events free and open to the public!
Nearly 2,000 athletes and coaches from across the state will participate in the 2014 State Summer Games, featuring competitions in Athletics (Track & Field), Aquatics, Basketball, Bowling, Powerlifting, Gymnastics, Tennis and Volleyball. The University at Buffalo will host our athletes, along with, AMF Thruway Lanes, Buffalo Niagara Court Center and more community event centers will be serving as host sites.
The Summer Games are one of three annual state games and one of more than 4,000 total competitive experiences held each year throughout New York. All events are free and open to the public.
Opening Ceremonies: Friday, June 6th at 8 PM at University at Buffalo, featuring the Parade of Athletes, entertainment and the lighting of the Special Olympics Cauldron.
Athletic Competition: Saturday, June 7th, in eight Olympic-style sports.
Volunteers are needed to: Set up and break down sports venues, distribute lunches, sell merchandise, and help with our Opening Ceremonies, and Olympic Village.
Staff the following athletic competitions: Athletics (Track & Field), Aquatics, Basketball, Bowling, Powerlifting, Gymnastics, Tennis and Volleyball & the most important role… to be ‘FANS in the Stands’ at Opening Ceremonies and at sports venues, cheering the athletes on to victory.

NYSPHSAA and Special Olympics NY Team Up for Spring 2014 Unified Sports Initiative
EAST GREENBUSH, NY – Today, the New York State Public High School Athletic Association, Inc. (NYSPHSAA) and Special Olympics New York are proud to announce they have partnered to establish the Unified Sports program, just one of only a few in the entire country in which Special Olympics and a State Association have collaborated. The program was launched just weeks ago and will culminate with an interscholastic event on May 31st.

Special Olympics Get Fit for Sport challenge
The Special Olympics Get Fit for Sport challenge is for everyone associated with Special Olympics, including athletes, families, coaches, volunteers, program staff, Board members, and friends. Special Olympics ran a pilot version of the challenge in 2012 that involved 10 United States Programs. This year, all U.S. Programs are invited to take part and see which Program can make the most healthy lifestyle changes over two eight-week periods starting March 1.

The 2014 Special Olympics USA Games will showcase the awe-inspiring abilities of athletes with intellectual disabilities, promote the ideals of acceptance and inclusion through sport and celebrate the transformative power of Special Olympics. There will be over 3,500 athletes, 1,000 coaches and delegates, and 10,000 volunteers on hand from across the country!
Comprised of over 100 athletes and coaches Team New York will be represented in Aquatics, Track & Field, Bocce, Golf, Gymnastics, Powerlifting, Volleyball, Basketball, Soccer, Tennis, and Basketball in this national spotlight.
These athletes have qualified at a state-level competition with a gold medal in order to earn their spot on Team New York. They will travel to New Jersey for the week-long experience that begins with an awesome Opening Ceremonies, high-level competitions in their respective sports, social and educational pieces in Olympic Village and finally enjoy the culmination of the event and their hard work in the Closing Ceremonies Celebration.
They will have the opportunity to engage with friends and fellow athletes from across the country in this once in a lifetime experience, all at no cost to them or their families.
